Day 1 of Her Executive Edge: Witnessing Nation-Building in Real Time at Lagos Free Zone

There are some experiences that leave you inspired, and then there are those that fundamentally shift the way you see leadership, innovation, and possibility. Day 1 of Her Executive Edge was undoubtedly the latter.

Hosted by Mrs. Adesuwa Ladoja, Managing Director/CEO of Lagos Free Zone (Tolaram), we had the rare opportunity to step into one of Nigeria’s most transformative economic hubs and witness nation-building in real time.

A Vision Built on Scale

As we toured the Lagos Free Zone, the sheer magnitude of what has been built was impossible to ignore.

Spanning 860 hectares, Lagos Free Zone is Nigeria’s first privately owned, deep-sea-port-based free zone. It represents a bold vision for industrialization, trade, and economic growth.

Within the zone sits the Lekki Deep Sea Port, the deepest port in Nigeria, capable of accommodating some of the world’s largest container vessels. This strategic infrastructure positions Nigeria as a major gateway for global trade and investment.

The zone has already attracted an impressive roster of international manufacturers and industry leaders, including Kellogg’s, Colgate, BASF, Dano, ADM, and Tata International. These organizations have chosen Lagos Free Zone as a base for production and expansion, reinforcing its importance as a destination for business and industrial development.

Even more inspiring is the impact on people. With projections of up to 30,000 jobs when the zone reaches full occupancy, Lagos Free Zone is not just creating infrastructure, it is creating opportunities, livelihoods, and a future for thousands of Nigerians.

Leadership That Inspires

At the center of this remarkable story is a woman.

Mrs. Adesuwa Ladoja exemplifies the kind of leadership that Her Executive Edge seeks to expose women to: visionary, strategic, authentic, and impactful.

What stood out most was not only her impressive track record but also her willingness to share insights, lessons, and experiences with openness and candour. She didn’t simply welcome us into the boardroom; she gave us a glimpse into the thinking, resilience, and leadership required to drive projects of national significance.

Her generosity in sharing her journey and leadership playbook left a lasting impression on everyone in the room.

A Masterclass in Hospitality and Excellence

Special appreciation goes to the entire Lagos Free Zone team for the warm reception and exceptional hospitality. Every detail was thoughtfully handled, creating an environment that encouraged engagement, learning, and meaningful conversations.

The professionalism, coordination, and welcoming spirit of the team reflected the same excellence that has become synonymous with the organization itself.

Celebrating Exceptional Women

A heartfelt thank you to Tiwalola, whose consistency, humility, and quiet excellence continue to inspire those around her. Great leaders do not simply achieve remarkable things; they create pathways for others to learn, grow, and succeed.

Thank you for setting such a high standard and for continuously championing spaces where women can thrive.

Women Dey!

As we reflected on the day’s experience, one message echoed throughout the room:

Women Dey!

Women are leading industries. Women are driving economic transformation. Women are shaping boardrooms, influencing policy, creating jobs, and building nations.

Day 1 of Her Executive Edge was more than a corporate visit. It was a powerful reminder that when women are given opportunities to lead, entire economies and communities benefit.

We left Lagos Free Zone inspired, energized, and more determined than ever to take our seats at the tables where decisions are made and futures are built.

Here’s to more learning, more leadership, and more women boldly stepping into their executive edge. 💜
